Submission for Broken Telephone Jam #9 - based on Rosetta’s Awakening

At the edge of a valley, the beast finds a person, a shiny object tossed down near them. The beast while untamed has some intelligence and awareness approaches with knowing curiosity. It raises high, asserting strength, but does not yet move, allowing for this moment between it and the person, dwarfed in comparison. The person speaks, cautiously brokering a deal.

This music felt like it belonged in an open world fantasy adventure. There’s so much you could encounter in fantasy, but I thought it would be cool to draw a fantasy creature. The rich deeper tones from the cello felt like this grand big creature in a peaceful moment. The winds were a higher voice. The bells spoke of magic, represented here by the shiny.

I drew inspiration primarily from dragon designs, dinosaurs, and lizards to make a beast for this world. I had a bit of a pete’s dragon shape sketch that evolved with horned dinosaurs, frilled lizard, and snake influences. This beast is grounded, body a bit compact for control around the legs with a long neck and tail giving it reach and maneuverability. Its length and frill allow for showy displays amongst its small clan.
